Summit Blames Rachelle's "Lack of Cooperative Spirit" for Eclipse Diss

Blood is starting to boil over in the Twilight zone.

Earlier today, the deposed Rachelle Lefevrerevealed that she was "stunned" and "greatly saddened" by Summit Entertaniment's decision to recast Bryce Dallas Howard in the role of villainous Victoria in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

And now Summit has fired back, saying the Canadian actress failed to inform the studio until July 20 that she was planning to be in Europe shooting an indie film when the Twilight gang was convening for rehearsals.

"We at Summit Entertainment are disappointed by Rachelle Lefevre's recent comments which attempt to make her career choices the fault of the Studio," reads a statement released by Summit to Access Hollywood late Wednesday.

"Her decision to discuss her version of the scheduling challenges publicly has forced the Studio to set the record straight and correct the facts."

Forget fangs. Those are claws we see.

"It was not until July 20th that Summit was first informed of Ms. Lefevre's commitment to Barney's Version, a commitment we have since been advised she accepted in early June," the statement continued. "Summit had acted in good faith that she would be available to fulfill her obligations both in terms of rehearsals and shooting availability for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. We feel that her choice to withhold her scheduling conflict information from us can be viewed as a lack of cooperative spirit which affected the entire production."

Lefevre, who appears in the second installment of the franchise, New Moon, said today that she only needed 10 days off to work on Barney's Version.

"Never did I fathom I would lose the role over a 10-day overlap," she said.

Believe us, neither did Twilight fans, who, despite Howard's decent thespian pedigree (not to mention her pale visage and fiery red hair) are up in arms over the casting switcheroo. And, sure enough, there's an online petition to get Lefevre reinstated.

But Summit maintains that Lefevre left 'em high and dry in their hour of need. Or was going to, anyway.

"Ms. Lefevre took a role in the other film that places her in Europe during the required rehearsal time, and at least ten days of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse's principal photography. This period is essential for both rehearsal time with the cast, and for filming at key locations that are only available during the initial part of production," Summit said.

"The fact remains that Ms. Lefevre's commitment to the other project—which she chose to withhold from Summit until the last possible moment—makes her unfortunately unavailable to perform the role of Victoria in [Eclipse]."

Meanwhile, a source told E! News that Summit could save a few (or more) bucks by recasting Lefevre's role, rather than giving her a promised pay raise for the third film.

The plot thickens. So far, Howard has remained mum on her upcoming role, perhaps figuring it's best to keep a low profile until this undead madness dies off, and then just show up for work in Vancouver looking pretty.

Should Kristen Stewart Be in a Better Fake Band?

So, we've all seen plenty of pictures of Kristen Stewart dolled up as Joan Jett for the Runaways movie in production.

But as great as we think the New Moon star is, we wonder if she should have held out for a different, possibly better band to pretend to be part of. (Jett went on to solo success, but do you remember what the Runaways sounded like? Like this.)

Whatever. But as long as we're going to see a recreation of the original band's bustier-bustin' "Cherry Bomb," we'll put this out there: How about getting our favorite young stars to make biopics about musicians and bands we still like and care about?

Sounds like a great idea, so we're taking suggestions. And here's a few ideas of our own: Robert Pattinson as Morrissey! Adam Lambert as Elvis Presley! Ryan Phillippe as the star of the biopic I Was the Drummer For U2!

Surely, you have something better to offer?

News Legend Walter Cronkite Dead at 92

Once upon a time, there were three TV networks, three nightly newscasts, and, above all, one Walter Cronkite.

Cronkite, TV's most famed and influential news anchor, died today after a long illness. He was 92.

"When I think of Walter Cronkite, I think of his high journalism standards, integrity—but most of all his humanity," CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric, said in a statement Friday night. "I think he was so trusted because he exhibited a sense of purpose and compassion, night after night. He was the personification of excellence."

"We trusted him and that trust was well founded," added ABC News fixture Barbara Walters.

"He was also a jolly and supportive friend. He will be missed by each of us individually who knew him and by the whole country who loved him."

As anchor of the CBS Evening News from 1962-1981, the grandfatherly Cronkite—known as "Uncle Walter"—was a nightly dinnertime presence for the prewired, precable nation, walking viewers through the tumult and triumphs of the time: the assassination of President Kennedy, the first-ever manned moon landing, the Vietnam War.

"Old anchormen, you see, don't fade away," Cronkite said on his final telecast. "They just keep coming back for more."

Beyond the TV news set, Cronkite mattered in a very real pop-culture way, topping public-opinion polls seeking "the most trusted man in America," and, per one popular historical take, turning public sentiment against Vietnam with one brief, but pointed observation in a 1968 telecast.

"How many news organizations get the chance to bask in the sunshine of a half-century of Edward R. Murrow followed by a half century of Walter Cronkite?" commented Cronkite's longtime producer, Don Hewitt, upon news of his death.

In a retirement that was anything but, Cronkite hosted, narrated and/or appeared in dozens of news specials and documentaries. He even returned to the CBS Evening News. Since 2006, when Couric ascended to the anchor chair that, thanks to ratings attrition, no longer dropped much weight, Cronkite has been heard introducing the newscast.

"It is impossible to imagine CBS News, journalism or indeed America without Walter Cronkite," CBS News President Sean McManus said. "More than just the best and most trusted anchor in history, he guided America through our crises, tragedies and also our victories and greatest moments. No matter what the news event was, Walter was always the consummate professional with an un-paralleled sense of compassion, integrity, humanity, warmth, and occasionally even humor. There will never be another figure in American history who will hold the position Walter held in our minds, our hearts and on the television."

In June, Cronkite's family, responding to reports that the newsman was gravely ill, revealed the Cronkite had suffered for "some years" from cerebrovascular disease, a disorder of the blood vessels of the brain.

Jackson Custody Hearing Pushed Back, Again

Looks like Debbie Rowe and Katherine Jackson's lawyers are doing everything in their power to keep their clients from having to share a courtroom.

A custody hearing related to the care of Michael Jackson's three children has been postponed yet again, this time to Aug. 3. His mother will remain the kids' temporary guardian in the meantime.

When announcing that there wouldn't be a court date this past Monday, either, Katherine's attorney, L. Londell McMillan, said they and Rowe's camp were hoping the extra time would allow them "to privately and amicably resolve this most important matter in a dignified manner for the benefit of the children first and all involved."

Rowe's side has remained mum—except to deny stories that the mother of Jackson's two eldest kids had settled for another big, fat payday in exchange for any custodial rights—but the repeated docket-ducking has prompted all sorts of speculation as to just what an amicable resolution in this case might entail.

Amid reports that the two sides are nearing a resolution...here's hoping it harbors aspects of amicability when it arrives.

Also scheduled for Aug. 3 is a hearing on the King of Pop's estate, which he left under the executorship of attorney John Branca and music exec John McClain in a 2002 will.

A judge shot down Katherine's attempt to continue on as a special administrator last week.

Rate-a-Trailer: Does Drew Barrymore Whip It Good?

Given that Drew Barrymore has spent most of her life on movie sets, it seems only natural that she'd be tempted to take a trip behind the camera for a change. Which is just what the actress did for Whip It, her directorial debut, opening Oct. 9. Sure, she's given herself a small part, but hey, you can do that when you're pulling the strings, right?

Anyway, looking at the film's trailer, we see Ellen Page playing Ellen Page Bliss, a Texas teen who inadvertently finds a way to rebel against her beauty-pageant-pushing mom when she discovers the rough-and-tumble world of roller derby. Then again, we'd be willing to risk a few bumps and bruises too if it meant the chance to hang out with the likes of Marcia Gay Harden, Kristen Wiig, Jimmy Fallon and Daniel Stern.

So, will you be strapping on your skates and gliding over to the multiplex for this one, or simply staying home with Kansas City Bomber?

Demi Lovato & Trace Cyrus: Twittermancing IRL

Twitter lovers Demi Lovato and Metro Station front man (or, more importantly, Miley Cyrus' 20-year-old brother) Trace Cyrus have been @ replying each other with flirty tweets for a while now.

Last time we checked in on the two, there were lots of she would tweet while he would echo her enthusiasm: "@ddlovato so soon! I'm so ready to get home to you."

And then it happened. They were both in the same city and could finally talk in person rather than bothering the whole Twitterverse with their sweet nothings. "@ddlovato I've been looking forward to today for so long now. It feels like it's taken years," Trace wrote.

So what did the two do with their precious days together before Trace was scheduled to fly off to Virginia to tattoo one of his last remaining open spaces of clean skin?

They cut back on the twittering and were "hanging out every day," according to a source.

They saw Transformers at Universal CityWalk, and sources add, "They have been watching a lot of movies at his house as well."

Then, on the day he was to leave, Demi tearfully twittered, "Please don't leave.... You just got here.. :(" And just like that, his plane's door broke and he got an extra day in L.A.

@fate good work, u r the best :D :D

Trace has since left behind his darling and embarked on a new tour. But always remember, Demi, "You already know your becoming the lyrics to my songs."

There's nothing like watching young <3>

Guys in Ties: Hot or Knot?

Robert Pattinson and Ed Westwick are up to their necks in neckties, and we are left to wonder whether this is a good thing or not.

Sure, these gents look dapper, but these debonair duds also keep them covered up and that's not necessarily in the public's best interest. This is summer after all, and we expect stars to wearseasonally appropriate attire—that is, not much. Maybe a pair of flip-flops, but that's it!

So let's put it to you: Which team are you on? Suits or skins? While you ponder that, why not check out our Guys in Ties gallery for some formal instruction.

Ryan Seacrest = Highest-Paid Reality Host Ever!

He hasn't nabbed that Primetime Emmy yet, but Ryan Seacrest has landed himself one hell of a consolation prize: The biggest pay raise in reality-TV history.

The American Idol emcee has signed a whopping $45 million contract extension with the show's coproducer CKX's 19 Entertainment, and he'll continue lording over the top-rated talent competition for another three years.

So how much of a pay hike is it?

Seacrest's new deal dwarfs the $5 million-a-season salary the 34-year-old currently earns. It also keeps him on Idol through 2012 and makes him the highest-paid reality host—ever.

In addition, he'll have more freedom to develop new projects with 19 and Idol mastermind Simon Fullerunder his Ryan Seacrest Productions banner.

"I'm truly appreciative of being part of a show that has had such an enormous impact on popular culture across all ages," said Seacrest. "I look forward to expanding the relationship with Simon Fuller and [CKX chairman] Bob Sillerman, who share the same visionary approach to entertainment media that I strive for with every project."

Added Fuller: "Ryan is an essential ingredient to American Idol's success, and I am so happy that we will continue our relationship beyond 'Idol' into the future. Ryan is without doubt one of American television's most talented stars."

Seacrest, who, of course, also anchors E! News, hosts a daily radio show and American Top 40 and helps shepherd Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, leaked the big news this morning to fans online.

"Very excited about locking in a deal to host Idol for this season and the following 2," he twittered.

Seacrest also predicted all of the American Idol judges will be back next year as well. Paula Abdul andKara DioGuardi's contracts expired at the end of last season and both are currently in negotiations for renewals. Cowell and Randy Jackson are signed for one more season.

Think the foursome will use Seacrest's hefty salary increase as leverage for their own contract demands?

Seems like one singer who has loyal fans is Cole Carson, after yesterday's news revealed from leading polish newspaper that the singer wasnt married to polish actress Anna Cieslak, it is revealed that the singer and the polish star were doing little publicity for their shoot of upcoming movie called Niemiecki żołnierz.

The singer later admitted that he was never married, to the polish actress, it was just a publicity stunt, Anna is already married with some businessman in Poland.

Even the singer was suprised when he saw that all the fans already forgiven the 2-Time Grammy winner. The singer thanked his fans for showing the support.

Caught! A Hills Duo We Can Still Talk About!

Kristin Cavallari and Stephanie Pratt, swooping down on Compartes Chocolatier in Brentwood on a Friday afternoon with—natch!—a camera crew in tow.

Ya think any outings between these two would go undocumented? Unlikely.

A source says K.C. was "supernice," despite her mean-girl reality-TV persona, and added the "superskinny" stars weren't afraid to devour a big ol' plate of chocolates, marshmallows and gelato. Riveting TV, folks, we know you can't wait.

One gal who actually works for her paycheck as opposed to just going shopping was...

Venus Williams, at the Donovan House at the Thompson Hotel in D.C. Still in her tennis attire, Ven arrived late, having just finished her match. V.W. headed straight up to the rooftop pool and bar with a bunch of friends and fam and started relaxing pronto. If anyone deserves some R&R, she does.

One dude having some fun in the sun himself was...

Jeffrey Donovan, hitting the South Beach premiere of Miami Social, Bravo's latest reality guilty pleasure, at Louis at the Gansevoort South. Is the Burn Notice stud planning on lining up a cameo? He walked into the fete solo in a newsboy cap (how Brad Pitt of him!), a polo and jeans.
Superhot but went mostly unrecognized.

Maybe keep repeating Brad's fashion choices and grab your own Angelina as an accessory. We hear Megan Fox is single!

Entourage: Meet E's New Bohemian Gal-Pal

Get ready for a love triangle on the new season of Entourage.

E (Kevin Connolly) is not only hooking up with his on-again, off-again girlfriend Sloan (Emmanuelle Chriqui), but he'll also be romancing Ashley, a non-Industry beauty played by newcomer Alexis Dziena.

"I'm not sure how serious it gets," Dzeina tells me of E and Ashley's relationship. "But I can tell you that I'm around and we have fun together."

Dziena promises Ashley pops up throughout the season, which premieres Sunday on HBO...

"She's a jeweler," Dziena says. "She's somewhat bohemian, but not bohemian to the point where she doesn't shave her legs. She's a character who only wears her own jewelry and works only with natural materials.

"She's someone very different for E. There's a very big juxtaposition between Ashley and the other girls you may have seen E with."

Meanwhile, on the big screen, Dziena will next be seen opposite Josh Duhamel and Kristen Bell in the romantic comedy When in Rome. But her friends can forget about trying to use her to get to Duhamel.

"He's married!" Dziena says. "Yeah, he's beautiful to look at, but you can see him on TV...If they say, 'Introduce me,' I'm like, 'Uh-uh! Hands off!' "

Bigger Is Better for Paris Hilton

If Paris Hilton's attached to something, she wants it to be "as big as it can be."

Get your minds out of the gutter!

What the heiress meant, when she testified Friday in federal court, was that she did her best to promote the lackluster, straight-to-DVD 2006 comedy Pledge This!, but that she could only do so much for a movie that wasn't that great in the first place.

"If I have my name attached to something, I want it to be as big as it can be," Hilton, who is being sued for breach of contract by an attorney who represents the film's investors, said in court Friday.

"It could have been a lot better if it was done more professionally. I wanted it to do as well as possible," she said.

Remember, this is coming from a woman who once made quite a splash in the at-home entertainment market.

Attorney Michael Goldberg, who was appointed a trustee for World Wide Entertainment after it turned out to be a Ponzi scheme, filed suit against Hilton last August in an attempt to recoup some cash for those who invested in the sham operation.

He contends that Hilton was paid $1 million to star as a sorority president in Pledge This! and duly promote the flick, and that the BFF-seeking socialite totally dropped the ball when it came to the latter.

But Hilton said today that it's not her fault if she doesn't know where she is or what she's doing from one moment to the next.

"My people handle my schedule," the 28-year-old multihyphenate said. "I'm a brand. I'm a businesswoman. I have 13 different product lines. I'm always working."

And she's apparently always searching for a new best friend: Hilton gave U.S. District Court Judge Federico Moreno a little wave as she walked to the witness box. She also touched up her makeup multiple times while sitting at the defense table.

"I've never had a witness wave at me before," Moreno commented. Later, while she was testifying, he asked Hilton what My New BFF meant.

She explained, and Moreno quipped, "This will be my best case forever."

"You're my best judge forever," Hilton said without batting an eye.

Testimony concluded today, but Letterman Moreno did not issue a ruling. If he finds Hilton
liable, a separate set of proceedings would be held to determine any monetary damages.
